Description
Number 16 is a house, later converted to offices, built between 1815 and 1822 and altered in the 20th century. It was designed by John and George Bischoff as part of a development of 13 houses forming the northeast corner of Queen Square. The building is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with an ashlar basement storey, and a slate roof. It is two storeys and a basement in height and has a three-window front. A stone staircase leads to a fielded-panel door with a fanlight featuring radial glazing bars; it is flanked by reeded pilasters, with an entablature and cornice above. The windows have small-pane frames set within stone sills, and flat brick arches. There is a modillion eaves cornice and an end stack. The interior was not inspected during listing. Attached railings have urn finials to the standards and pierced finials to the rails. Number 16 is the only house on this side of Queen Square with a three-window front.
