Description

Croft House is a house dating from the middle to later 18th century, with later alterations and additions. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone with quoins, and has a stone slate roof. The house originally had a rectangular, double-depth plan under a two-span roof. It is two storeys high and originally two bays wide, though an additional bay has been added to the left. A first-floor band runs along the front. The main doorway is offset slightly left of centre, and there are two coupled sash windows on each floor, all with plain surrounds. The windows have flat-faced central mullions. The addition to the left, marked by a quoined vertical joint, contains an inserted doorway with a modern swept canopy, coupled sash windows to the left, and an oeil-de-boeuf (circular window) above. A parallel rear range was added in the 19th century and is of less architectural significance. The building has group value.
