Description

No. 7 The Headrow is a house that has been converted into a restaurant. It likely dates from the early 19th century but retains parts of a 17th-century and possibly earlier structure. The building is rendered with a stone slate roof and has three storeys. There are two windows on the first and second floors facing the street, with a narrow range extending back approximately six bays. The ground floor features a restaurant facade, while the upper floors have sash windows.

Inside, it is said to contain roof timbers that date back to the 17th century or even medieval times. The building maintains its 18th and 19th-century character, standing in a street that has seen significant changes in the late 19th and 20th centuries. Historical records indicate that this site was once home to Rockley Hall, purchased by John Harrison in 1603, and described by Ralph Thoresby in 1715 as an old timber building. Thoresby noted that a new brick structure had been built on the site, reusing some of the original timbers. Although the building has undergone considerable alterations in the 19th century, it is likely that it still retains features from its earlier history.
