Description
Barclays Bank and Chambers is a bank building and chambers constructed between 1936 and 1938, designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield. It is located on a corner site at the intersection of The Headrow and Vicar Lane. The building features a classical style, constructed from Portland stone and red brick, with a slate roof. The corner entrance has the bank's badge carved above the doorway. There are three windows facing Vicar Lane and four windows facing The Headrow, with the entrance to the Chambers on the right. The ground floor has rusticated masonry and round-arched windows, while the upper floor features rectangular small-pane metal-framed windows. The building is adorned with giant pilasters, an entablature, and a balustraded parapet with urns. The interior has not been inspected. This building complements another bank building, No. 2, located on the opposite side of The Headrow, and is the only structure from Sir Reginald Blomfield's design scheme on the south side of The Headrow.
