Description
60 and 62 Vicar Lane is a shop and temperance hotel, now serving as a shop and offices. It was built in 1900 and has been altered in the 20th century. The building is constructed of brick with stone and terracotta details and features a slate roof. It stands four storeys tall with attics and has two bays. The ground floor has a late 20th-century shop window and fascia. Each floor has paired windows; the first floor features three lights with two mullions and transoms, topped with a stone lintel. The second floor has paired sash windows, while the third floor has smaller sashes with terracotta panels below, displaying the letters B with ?M/LT and '1900' in foliate scrolled surrounds. There are small windows in a triangular gable with moulded coping and pointed finials. The interior has not been inspected. This building was constructed as a non-matching pair with No. 58. It possibly housed the Temperance Hotel listed in the 1901 directory. By 1910, No. 60 was used by a butcher, while No. 62 was the Clifton Temperance Hotel and Restaurant, managed by SE Johnson, according to Kelly's Directory of Leeds from 1910.
