Description
Fearnville is a small country house, now converted into flats, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared gritstone and ashlar, topped with slate roofs. The building is two stories high with a three by one bay entrance front facing southwest. At the rear, there is a stair wing and service range that encloses a shallow northwest-facing yard.
The entrance facade features a central porch supported by Doric columns, which hold up a finely detailed entablature that includes a triglyph frieze and a dentilled cornice, topped with a shallow pediment. The flanking windows and first-floor sashes have glazing bars and large ashlar lintels, with a recessed panel above the ground-floor windows and a sill band on the first floor. The facade also has a cornice and blocking course, with a shallow hipped roof and rendered stacks.
On the left return, there is a blind recess on the first floor, alongside a large staircase window with margin lights and 16-pane sashes, which also features a sill band on the first floor. Inside, the landing balustrade can be seen through the stair window; it is likely made of cast iron and features alternate fluted and moulded balusters, with scroll and wreath decoration, a pine-cone finial, and a moulded handrail.
