Description
The Memorial to the Victims of the Bramhope Tunnel Disaster is located on the west side of Kirkgate and dates from the mid-19th century. It is a scale model of the Bramhope Tunnel, constructed in stone as a tribute to the railwaymen who lost their lives during its construction from 1845 to 1849. The memorial features a rectangular base with round towers at each corner of the tunnel, topped with an embattled parapet. On the south side, there is a slate panel that bears an inscription. The memorial is enclosed by cast iron railings along Church Lane, which have standards topped with cross finials. This memorial, along with the Parish Church of All Saints, forms a group with Nos 1 and 2 Church Lane.
