Description
Nos 1 and 2 Church Lane were originally one house but have been converted into two flats. This substantial building dates from the 17th century and is constructed of millstone grit with a stone slate roof. It has two stories and features three stone stacks, along with stone-coped gable ends that include kneelers. The building has a rendered plinth and three modern three-light casement windows on the first floor. On the ground floor, there is one 18th-century window with an architrave and keystone, alongside two other modern casements.
No 2 has a plain stone lintel above a modern door, while No 1 features an architrave with a rectangular fanlight and a six-panel door, which shows traces of a former hood. A projecting wing on the north side includes an original doorway and a four-light window with three mullions and a hood mould. Also on the north side, there is an inscription that reads: "HANC AEDEM COND MDCLXXIII ET IAM PENE DELAPSURAM RESTITUIT RESTAURAVIT JACOBUS BAILEY VIC OT MDCCXIII."
Nos 1 and 2 form a group with the memorial to the victims of the Bramhope Tunnel Disaster and the Parish Church of All Saints on Kirkgate.
