Description
Scott's Almshouses, located at Nos. 4-7 Middleton Road, are a row of four almshouses built in 1896 by John E Leake. The buildings are constructed of red brick with stone dressings and feature a slate hipped roof. They stand two storeys high and consist of four bays. The design includes two- and three-light square bay windows with a continuous parapet above, which creates entrance porches that have glazed doors and overlights, with a short stone column in the center.
On the upper floor, the outer bays feature round-arched sash windows that are topped with pediments on brackets. The inner two bays have two-light windows with ornate pedimented gables above, complete with moulded copings and ball and vase finials. There are tall banded stacks at each end and positioned forward of the ridge on both the left and right sides. The interior has not been inspected. This building is part of a group of almshouses.
