Description
The tower and spire of the Church of St Mary, built between 1862 and 1864 by architects Perkins and Backhouse, are designed in the Gothic Revival style and constructed from dressed stone. The tall tower features corner buttresses and a high pointed moulded doorway at its base, which is cusped and has a gabled dripmould adorned with crockets that contain the carved date 1864. Above the doorway is a three-light Geometric traceried window, followed by a clock face. The belfry consists of a two-light window with plate tracery, flanked by blind lights. The structure is capped with a cornice and a stone broach spire that includes lucarnes at its base. The interior has not been inspected, and the remainder of the church has been rebuilt and is not considered of special interest.
