Description
The building is a pair of stables and a hay loft located approximately 10 meters southeast of Whitecote House, originally built in the late 18th century. The structure is made of coursed local gritstone and features a hipped stone slate roof, which was destroyed by fire around 1990. It is two storeys high and consists of three bays, with the central bay projecting forward and topped with a gable. Each of the outer bays has a doorway with a plain surround; the left doorway has been enlarged, and there is a small round vent in the gable above. The rear of the building includes a doorway on the left, a square window on the right, and another square window in the center on the first floor. There is also a square window in a plain surround on the left side, with an added lean-to on the right. Additional windows were included during the conversion to a house in 1994. The stables are part of a unique group of canal-side structures that may have been associated with the storage of goods transported by canal. The interior has not been inspected.
