Description

This is a row of three houses located at numbers 3, 5, and 7 on Victoria Road in Hyde Park, built around 1840 and altered in the late 19th century. The houses are constructed of ashlar with a grey slate roof and feature wrought-iron railings. They stand two storeys over a basement, with added attics due to the sloping site. Each house has two bays, and the entrance to the passage leading to the rear is located at the far left. There are steps with nosed treads leading up to a four-panel door, which has a traceried overlight set in a pilastered surround with an entablature and blocking piece. The windows are small-pane sash types set within stone architraves, and there is a continuous sill band. A large corniced multi-flue ridge stack is positioned between Nos. 3 and 5, and at the far right. Alterations to the houses include plate-glass sashes and glazing on the door of No. 3, as well as a 20th-century ground-floor window frame on No. 5. The interior has not been inspected. The railings that flank the steps and protect the basement areas feature rails with fleur-de-lis finials. A straight join indicates that No. 3 was constructed separately, but the block likely corresponds to what is shown on the 1850 Ordnance Survey map.
