Description
This sundial, located about 10 metres south of the Church of St John the Baptist, dates back to 1682. It features a monolithic chamfered gritstone shaft with an oversailing moulded capital, resting on a square base and plinth, with an overall height of approximately 1.5 metres. The sundial has a small octagonal bronze or copper plate that bears a worn inscription: 'UT HORA SIC VITA', which translates to 'as an hour so is life'.
