Description
The Old Post Office, located at 54 Boroughgate, is an 18th-century dwelling house constructed from stone. It features three storeys and has had its original stone slate roof replaced with blue slates. The original window cills are integrated into plain string courses. The central doorway is framed by rusticated quoin stone jambs and a keystone lintel. Above the doorway, there is a plain Venetian window on the first floor, and on the second floor, a semi-circular window is flanked by two-light windows on each side. While the house retains much of its original external appearance and is of substantial construction, it has been altered by the addition of two two-storey bay windows. The building is part of a group that includes Nos 44 and 46, as well as Nos 54 to 60 (even).
