Description
The Lanier Business Centre, originally known as the Baptist School, is a former school building now used as offices. It was constructed in 1881 and converted in the late 20th century. The building is made of red brick with moulded and carved terracotta and features a hipped slate roof. It has one storey and a basement.
The front of the building showcases a large moulded brick pediment adorned with terracotta ornamentation in the tympanum, along with a dentilled cornice and frieze that includes a key motif. There are two pairs of moulded brick fluted pilasters flanking a double entrance, which is also framed by pilasters and a moulded architrave. Above the entrance, the words 'BAPTIST SCHOOL' are displayed in moulded brick. A heavy moulded brick dentilled cornice wraps around the entire building. The sides feature five tall round-headed windows with moulded brick architraves. The northeast end bay projects, and on the right return, there is a projecting upper-floor entrance bay on the far right that has cantilevered steps. The interior has not been inspected.
