Description

Pudsey Town School is a small school, which has been partly converted into a dwelling. It was built around 1811, repaired in 1814, and was entirely rebuilt in its original form around 1985. The building is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and has a stone slate roof. It is a single-storey structure featuring three windows and a door. The windows are two-light flat-faced mullioned types set in flush stone surrounds. The doorway, which has tie-stone jambs, features a lintel inscribed with the phrase: "Train up a Child in the Way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it. Prov. 22.6 This school was repaired by the Town in the year of our Lord 1814". This inscription is followed by the names of the overseers and Churchwardens. The building has ashlar coped gables with kneelers and the base of a stack on the left end. This school served as the town school and was built on the site of an earlier town school.
