Description
No 1 Chapeltown is a house built in the late 18th century. The roof has been raised, the stack replaced, and the front and rear windows were altered around 1980. The building is constructed from thin coursed hammer-dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. It is two storeys high with a central entry plan that is double-depth. All windows have been replaced with flat-faced mullioned windows. The first cell has a four-light window on each floor, while the second cell has a three-light window with a four-light window above it, which was originally three-light according to a previous listing description. The house has coped gables and an end ridge stack on the left side. An indenture dated 1782 for the Tudor House next door refers to "those two dwelling-houses or tenements adjoining one upon another and one of them lately erected," suggesting that this house may have been built around 1782. It is included for its group value.
