Description
The former barn to Northorpe Hall, dating from the 17th century, has been converted into a school room. It features thinly coursed rubble walls, quoins, and a stone slate roof with chamfered gable copings on cut kneelers. There are outshuts at both the front and rear, along with two square-headed cart entrances at the front, supported by reused timbers above. A partly blocked cart entry is located at the rear.
Inside, the barn consists of five bays and has four trusses supported by jowelled posts. These posts, which have lifting holes, rest on stone footings. The structure includes three king-post trusses with struts, and one truss that has struts only. The posts are braced to arcade plates and tie-beams, with aisles on each side. There are housings in the posts, likely for aisle-ties, and some reused timber is present, along with original rafters.
