Description

Fernleigh, on Thornhill Road in Edgerton, is a mid-19th century house comprising Nos 10 and 12. It is constructed of rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings and a pitched slate roof, featuring coped gables and stone bracketed eaves. The house is two storeys and attics, with a continuous sill line across the first floor.

The front elevation is almost symmetrical, with two gabled bays at each end. These have lower gabled bays projecting slightly, framing a trefoiled sash window with a hoodmould on the first floor and a ground floor canted bay with moulded and carved cornices, and a parapet with trilobe ornamentation. The central bays differ: the south bay projects slightly and features a hipped and sprocketed truncated pyramidal roof with ornamental iron finials at the corners. The north bay has a ground floor oblong bay with three sashes, a moulded and carved cornice, and a parapet with trilobe ornament.

A three-storey tower is located on the side elevation, with a bracketed eaves cornice and a hipped and sprocketed truncated pyramidal roof surmounted by cast iron cresting.
