Description

This is an early to mid-19th century pair of weavers’ houses, originally part of a row, located at Scar Top in Golcar. The houses are constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a pitched stone slate roof and a coped east gable. They feature two chimneys with tabling, and a later chimney with tabling and a moulded cap. Stone brackets support the gutter.

The south elevation of No. 6 has a ground floor doorway with a stone surround and tie-stones. It has one four-light stone mullioned window and one three-light stone mullioned window on the ground floor, and a ten-light stone mullioned window on the first floor. No. 7’s south elevation also has a ground floor doorway with a stone surround and tie-stones. It includes one three-light stone mullioned window and one four-light stone mullioned window on the ground floor, where the mullions have been removed. The first floor has a ten-light stone mullioned window, from which three mullions have been removed. The north elevation features two first-floor doorways, each with a stone surround and tie-stones. The ground floor of the north elevation has been built up to ground level.
