Description
Austonley Hall is a house that is part of a farm group, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, although it has earlier origins. The south elevation was built in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with quoins on the north side and features a half-hipped stone slate roof with a coped gable. Moulded stone brackets are present on the string course.
The house has three storeys. On the ground floor, there is a central doorway framed by millstone grit quoins, a deep lintel, and chamfered reveals. Above the doorway, a square plaque features a figure and harp motif with the inscription: "TE DEUM LAUDAMUS." On each side of the doorway, there are two 3-light stone mullioned windows on all three floors. An inscription on the south side reads: "C.G. 1763," which may have been reset.
The left gable has two storeys, with two sash windows on the ground and first floors. At the rear, there is a 5-light double chamfered stone mullioned window located below ground level.
