Description
The barn at Austonley Hall is a structure dating from the 17th century or early 18th century, with later alterations. It is built of coursed rubble and features quoins, topped with a stone slate roof. The barn has two storeys. On the south-west side, the ground floor has three entrances that include millstone grit quoins, deep lintels with Tudor arches, and chamfered reveals, although one entrance has been altered. There is also a later large doorway that has been partly blocked. High up, there are two original openings; one has quoins and chamfered reveals, while the other is a small opening with deep chamfered reveals. The south-east gable features a later external stone stair leading to an altered or later first-floor doorway. Inside, in the east corner of the ground floor, there is a small fireplace with a semi-circular false arch set in a deep lintel. The roof trusses are not original.
