Description
The buildings along Factory Lane and the canal at Union Mills, including a tower situated between the two blocks, date from the mid-19th century. They are constructed from hammer-dressed stone and feature pitched slate roofs with coped gables on kneelers. The structure consists of five storeys, with stone brackets supporting the gutters. The block along Factory Lane has 19 ranges of windows, while the block along the canal has 14 ranges of segment-headed windows with glazing bars and two ranges of planked loading doors. The ground floor windows are round-arched and have rock-faced voussoirs. The building has a double gable end with oculi. There is a three-storey engine house extension to the west, which includes an iron water tank on the roof and one round-arched window that is two storeys high, also featuring rock-faced voussoirs and jambs. The tower, located at the angle between the two blocks, has a pyramidal slate roof, a bracketed eaves cornice, and one oculus on each side, along with three round-arched windows on each side that have plain raised imposts and keystones.
