Description

Hardenby Cottage and the adjoining cottage to the northeast, along with a barn, date back to 1826, as indicated by a datestone. The buildings are constructed from hammer-dressed stone that has been painted, and they feature a pitched stone slate roof.

Hardenby Cottage has a southeast elevation with a ground floor doorway that has a timber surround, complete with a cornice supported by timber consoles. There is also a five-light stone mullioned window, although two of the mullions have been removed, and a two-light stone mullioned window. On the first floor, there is an eight-light stone mullioned window. The northwest elevation includes a ground floor brick extension, and on the first floor, there are two three-light stone mullioned windows.

The adjoining cottage to the northeast has a southeast elevation with a ground floor entrance featuring a stone surround and a five-light stone mullioned window, where the center light has been blocked. The first floor has an eight-light stone mullioned window that has been partially blocked to create three two-light windows, each with a removed mullion. The northwest elevation shows a ground floor five-light stone mullioned window with the center light blocked, along with a two-light stone mullioned window that has had its mullion removed. On the first floor, there are two two-light stone mullioned windows, with two of the mullions removed.

The barn's south elevation features a large central doorway with a segmental arched head, a stone surround, tie-stones, and a small square vent above. There is also a small blocked doorway. The northwest elevation has two doorways, one of which is a later addition.
