Description

Upper Hagg, part of a terrace of houses, dates from the early 18th century. The houses are constructed of deeply coursed millstone grit, with quoins and a plinth. The roof is covered in stone slates, with a bitumen covering on the roof of No. 4. A central chimney stack is built of ashlar, with a cap and tabling, and a later extension in hammer-dressed stone. The houses are two storeys high and were likely originally a single dwelling. The south-east elevation features an entrance to No. 5 with a very deep lintel, and a later entrance to No. 4. Two 3-light double chamfered stone mullioned windows are visible on the ground floor, while the first floor has two 3-light chamfered stone mullioned windows. The mullions of one window in No. 4 have been removed. The north-west elevation has a later lean-to extension with a catslide roof.
