Description
The Church of St George is a Gothic revival church located on Brockholes Lane, built in 1861 with later additions including a baptistry, chancel, vestry, and organ chamber. It was constructed at the expense of Miss Marianne Armitage of Honley. The church features deeply coursed, slightly rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings and diagonal buttressing. Its slate roof has gable copings and moulded stone brackets. The nave consists of five bays with 2-light windows that have Y-tracery. At the north-east end, there is a chancel, vestry, and organ chamber, with a 3-light stained glass window in the north-east wall. The baptistry at the south-west end includes a 2-light stained glass window. The church has a lower roof topped by an octagonal, louvred bell turret with a spire. Inside, the church has a simple design featuring an oak eagle lectern and pulpit. There is a reference with a photograph in "The History of Honley" by M A Jagger, published in 1914.
