Description

Nos 1047 to 1061 on Manchester Road, built in 1824, are a terrace of weavers' houses constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a pitched stone slate roof, part of which is covered in bitumen. The gables are coped, and there are stone brackets supporting the gutter. The terrace is two to three storeys high.

On the south elevation, the ground floor features four entrances with stone surrounds and four three-light stone mullioned windows. The first floor has one eleven-light stone mullioned window and two six-light stone mullioned windows, with a continuous sill band running along.

The north elevation, which is under the dwellings, has three doorways with stone mullioned windows on the ground floor, along with three four-light stone mullioned windows and one three-light stone mullioned window. Above these, there is a continuous string course. The first floor includes two six-light stone mullioned windows, one three-light stone mullioned window, one four-light stone mullioned window, and one window in a former loading bay. The second floor has two six-light stone mullioned windows and one twelve-light stone mullioned window, also with a continuous sill band.

An inscription in a recessed plaque between the first and second floors reads: "J & H Spring Grove 1824," with a moulded sill beneath it.
