Description

MIRFIELD UD LEEDS ROAD SE 12 SE (Mirfield)

1/130 14/4/75 No. 13 (Yew Tree)

G.V. II

Detached house. Late C15 or C16 timber frame with modern exterior, rendered with applied timber framing. Stone slate roof. Two storeys. Stone mullioned casement windows, some re-used from C18 or C19 cladding of the house. The original house was of 3 bays with an outshut to rear. Two aisle-posts with stone footings remain but have been replaced at 1st floor level. Both wall plates to house, remain with sockets for close vertical studding. The wall plate of the aisle is mainly obscured. All 3 are scarf-jointed just to west of the posts separating the east and central bays. These posts support a king-post truss. Between the central and western bays is an inserted chimney, possibly C17. Oak plank floor of eastern and central bays possibly C17. Floor in the western bay C19 or C20. Common rafters are apparently numbered 2 to 27, No. 2 to east. No. I was possibly a jettied gable end, now gone.
