Description

Yew Tree is a detached house located on Leeds Road in Mirfield. It dates from the late 15th century or 16th century and features a timber frame with a modern exterior that is rendered with applied timber framing. The roof is made of stone slate and the house has two storeys. It includes stone mullioned casement windows, some of which have been reused from the 18th century or 19th century cladding of the house.

Originally, the house consisted of three bays with an outshut at the rear. Two aisle-posts with stone footings remain, although they have been replaced at the first floor level. The wall plates of the house are intact and have sockets for close vertical studding, while the wall plate of the aisle is mostly obscured. All three wall plates are scarf-jointed just west of the posts that separate the east and central bays. These posts support a king-post truss. An inserted chimney, likely from the 17th century, is located between the central and western bays. The oak plank floor in the eastern and central bays may date to the 17th century, while the floor in the western bay is from the 19th or 20th century. The common rafters are numbered from 2 to 27, with No. 2 located to the east. The original jettied gable end, which was possibly No. 1, is no longer present.
