Description
The Bullen House is a detached house, likely built in the early 17th century, with a date of 1640 noted on the interior panelling. It has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. The structure features a timber frame with close-studded panels, brick, and rendered infill; the left side is entirely rendered. The roof is plain tiled, with a 19th-century brick stack located off-centre to the left and a rear stack. The house is arranged in an L-plan and consists of a single storey with garrets. It has two bays, with two 20th-century three-light casements on the left and a bracketted out four-light casement with ovolo moulded mullions on the right. There is a moulded jetty across the right side and part of the left. A central two-storey porch features a moulded jetty, an outer doorway with ovolo and ogee moulding, and an inner studded plank door with strap hinges set in a moulded surround. The plain rear wing does not have notable features. Inside, the right room includes a bolection moulded fire surround, 18th-century fielded panelling, a corner china cupboard with a segmental head and cut shelves, and an arcaded overmantel with the date of 1640 and a carved frieze.
