Description
Kings Mill House, now divided into two houses, was built around 1840 and extended around 1890. The front facade is of ashlar, while the remaining facades are of dressed stone with ashlar dressings. It has a shallow hipped slate roof and is two storeys and an attic. The north-west front has four windows arranged in a 1:3 pattern. Features include an ashlar plinth, moulded eaves, and a low parapet. The off-centre doorway, reached by three steps, has an ashlar Doric columned surround, a moulded hood, and a glazed door with an overlight. Flanking the doorway are single canted ashlar bay windows with pilasters, acroteria, and glazing bar sashes. Above the windows are three plain sashes in simple ashlar surrounds; above the central window is a hood and pediment with acroteria on the parapet. Slightly set back to the left is a single window with a pilaster surround, moulded hood, and a glazing bar sash, above which is another plain sash. The side fronts largely have replaced 20th-century casements. The rear front has a tall, round-headed stair window with glazing bars and a panelled door below. Most windows have glazing bars and plain ashlar surrounds. A projecting wing on the right has a 20th-century wooden canted bay window. The interior of No. 19 retains original features, including a single flight and return staircase with an ornate iron balustrade, a wooden handrail, and a tall, round-headed stair window in a moulded surround with patera and panelled sides. No. 17 has a late 19th-century wooden turned baluster staircase. Some rooms retain panelled doors and moulded door surrounds with patera, moulded plaster coving, and windows with matching surrounds and panelled shutters.
