Description
A barn of 17th century or earlier origin, with later 18th-century cladding. It is constructed with timber framing and hammer-dressed stone walls, featuring quoins. The roof is covered in stone slate, and the gables have copings and moulded kneelers. Large openings are present on each elevation, with quoins, although one section is blocked. The central part of the barn is timber-framed and has three bays, supported by four trusses resting on principal posts and massive wall plates. Extensions at each end incorporate queen post trusses, likely dating from the 18th century. Two original king post trusses remain, exhibiting massive timbers and pegged joints. One truss is missing struts, while braces to the right side are also absent. Braces from the truss to the post are present, though they may be later additions. This barn was originally an aisled barn; the aisles were likely removed in the early 18th century when the adjacent house was constructed.
