Description

These two small textile warehouses were built in the early 1860s and altered in 1872, later converted into apartments in the 21st century. They stand within the Dewsbury Town Centre Conservation Area, forming part of a block of smaller warehouses.

The buildings face west, and are situated alongside 21 Wellington Road to the north and 3 Wellington Street to the east. The main facade is of three storeys with a basement, and has a four-bay frontage in a Classical Italianate palazzo style. The construction uses buff sandstone, with a slate roof. The basement is ashlar, while the ground floor is rusticated with quoins. The upper floors are narrow-coursed with moulded stone plat bands and an eaves cornice. The entrances are located in the two central bays, with panelled double doors remaining in the second bay from the left. The outer bays feature basement windows below arched windows with moulded aprons. All ground-floor openings have arched heads with keystones carved with heads. The upper floors have shouldered and eared architraves, with keystones on the first floor. The roof is hipped with corniced eaves stacks.

The south facade is angled, containing four bays to the left and one bay to the right, each of four storeys and constructed of rock-faced stonework with plain stone sills and lintels. Bay four has taking-in doors, and bay five has a straight vertical joint, with taking-in doors forming the left jamb of the windows. The eaves feature paired plain stone gutter corbels. All windows have been replaced.

Internally, there are original structural roof timbers, beams, and columns, although these are now largely boxed in. A modern staircase and partition walls have been inserted. The party wall with 3 Wellington Street has blocked former openings.
