Description

The retaining walls, gatepiers, and railings form the entrance to the Central Methodist Church, dating back to approximately 1839. The walls are rock-faced, supporting spear-headed railings. The gatepiers are square, constructed of ashlar with a rock-faced base, a rusticated upper section, and square caps. A set of stone steps provides access to the raised forecourt in the centre of the front. A section of railing is missing from the left-hand side wall. The group value of this feature lies in its contribution to the aesthetic and historical character of the church and its setting.
