Description
The barn located to the south-west of Royds Farm is likely from the 16th and 17th centuries. It features a timber frame that has been later covered in rubble brought to course, topped with a stone slate roof. The east front consists of three bays, with a lean-to mistal on the left side. Notable architectural details include quoins and a plinth. Near the center, there is a cart-entry with some quoins, timber posts, a lintel, and horizontally-hung board doors. To the right of the cart-entry, there is a wood-framed stable door and an 8-pane window with a wood lintel. The stables projecting to the right are not of special interest. The mistal on the left has a door and a 19th-century window with a stone door. The rear of the barn features a blocked threshing door, blocked triangular vents, and later windows. The left return shows that the barn gable has been rebuilt in brick. Inside, there are large scantling timbers, four jewelled arcade posts on padstones with braces to the arcade plate and tie-beams, and king-post trusses with angle struts and longitudinal braces to the ridge-piece. The barn originally extended by one or two additional bays to the south.
