Description
Crowtrees, including the pump in the garden at the rear, is a house likely built in 1819 for Charles Mellor, as indicated by the date and initials on the pump. The building is constructed of coursed squared stone and features a slate roof. It has two storeys and three bays, with a wing extending to the rear left.
The house has a plinth and quoins, with steps leading up to a central six-panel door that is topped with an overlight featuring decorative glazing bars, all framed in plain stone with a fluted frieze and cornice. The windows on the ground floor are 20th-century sashes set in plain stone surrounds, and there is a first-floor window above the doorway that is connected to it by stone blocks. An eaves band runs along the top of the building, and the roof is hipped with end stacks that have string courses.
At the rear, there is a tall, central round-arched stair window with small panes and arched glazing bars at the top. The wing has flat-faced mullion windows, although the mullions of the first-floor window have been removed.
