Description

The Bar House is a former bar house built around 1840, with later additions. It is constructed of ashlar and features a hipped slate roof. The building is single storey and has a canted bay facing the road, which includes a central doorway with a cambered head and deep chamfered reveals. On either side of the doorway are square-headed, two-light windows with pointed lights, and there is an additional similar two-light window to the right. The rear of the building has later additions that include mullioned windows. This toll house was previously part of the Heckmondwike and Tong Turnpike Trust.
