BATLEY KIRKGATE (South East side), Batley Tomb of Ellen Nussey 20 Metres NW of Birstall Parish Church

Chest tomb. 1826. Ashlar chest tomb raised on 2 steps. Rectangular. Single panel at either end, with 2 panels to each of the side facades. Top inscribed to John Nussey, died 14th July 1826, George his son died 7th October 1812, daughter Sarah Walker died 16th June 1843. Plus his youngest daughter Ellen Nussey, friend of Charlotte Bronte, who died 26th November 1897, aged 80 years. This tomb is listed for its historic interest.
