Description
Pickle Top and Barn is a late 18th-century building that was originally two cottages and a barn. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone with quoins and features a pitched stone roof. The gable stack is made of ashlar and has water tabling. The west side has moulded footstones, while the barn roof is covered in bitumen. The building is two storeys high, with the ground floor at the back set into the earth.
On the south elevation, No. 1 has a ground floor that includes a doorway with a large lintel, stone surround, and tie-stones, along with a five-light stone mullioned window that has recessed mullions and a flush King mullion. The first floor features a two-light stone mullioned window and a three-light stone mullioned window. No. 2 has a ground floor with a two-light stone mullioned window and a first floor with a three-light stone mullioned window. There is an extension to the north that has a catslide roof. The barn includes a large doorway with a segmental arched head, stone surrounds, and tie-stones.
