Description

This is a lodge, likely dating from the late 17th century, situated within Kirklees Park, near Brighouse. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. The lodge is a single storey building with an attic, arranged in two bays. It features quoins and a central ridge stack with two diagonal flues. The front elevation retains one two-light mullioned window with an ovolo-moulded chamfer and hoodmould. The gable end has a three-light chamfered and rebated mullioned window with a hoodmould, along with a smaller two-light window above, both with early latticed glazing. The west side, closest to the gate, incorporates a rolled coping resembling medieval stonework, which may have been re-used from Kirklees Priory. It also has a Tudor doorway with finely moulded jambs and a three-light window similar to that on the gable end. If built as a lodge, it represents an early example; the architectural features may have been assembled around the time the adjacent gates were constructed.
