Description

Nos. 1-5 Deal Street are wool warehouses from the mid-19th century, with No. 1 dating back to 1849. The buildings feature thin courses of squared stone with a plinth and ashlar dressings, while the rear walls of Nos. 2-5 are made of brick. The roofs are covered with large slates and have stone gable copings.

The exterior consists of three and four storeys, with a total of seven windows across the front, arranged as 7:3:3:3:3. The left corner facing Church Street is chamfered. Each warehouse has a central gabled loading bay with a tier of loading doors; the loading doors in No. 1 are blocked except for those on the ground floor, while the others are boarded with ashlar blocks between the floors. The windows have wedge stone lintels and projecting stone sills, featuring small panes of fixed lights. Nos. 2-5 have tall chimney stacks to the right of their front gables. The left return to Church Street is four storeys high with seven windows, including two gables above the third bay's tier of loading doors and the sixth bay containing windows. The east wall facing Church Street has a slight bulge, and the rear elevation facing Blucher Yard shows small-paned lights.

Inside, the buildings feature tapered cast iron piers. Number 1 has wooden props of unknown date that support the ceiling beams.
