Description

A row of shops dating circa 1870. The building is constructed of pitch-faced stone with ashlar dressings, and has a slate roof. It is designed in the Gothic Revival style, standing three storeys high. Each shopfront is set between flanking pilasters, with a prominent cornice. The first floor features a group of three windows between the pilasters; each window has a semi-circular head and pointed extrados, with banded stone voussoirs and a crocketed impost band. The second floor has stilted segmental-headed windows separated by colonnettes, with a similar impost band. Stone gutter brackets are located at the eaves cornice. The shop fronts appear to be later additions, however, number 47 retains shouldered-arched shop windows, which may be closer to the original date of the building. Three stacks rise from the ridge.
