Description

New Laithe is an early 19th century building that originally served as a two-cottage laithe house, now used as a single dwelling. It is constructed of thin, hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. The two-storey main part of the building has a doorway with monolithic jambs, flanked by flat-faced mullioned windows of three lights. Above the door is a two-light window. To the side of the building is a barn with a segmental arched doorway (containing a 20th century replacement window). Above this doorway is a mullioned three-light window. To the right of the barn, a slightly later two-storey cottage projects forward, featuring a catslide roof and a three-light window to the first floor. There are three chimneys along the ridge. An outshut, a single-storey addition, is located at the rear.
