Description

High Trees Hall is a home, built around 1678 for John Ramsden, and now divided into two occupancies. The building is constructed of finely dressed stone with a stone slate roof, arranged on a double pile plan. The south front has two gabled bays and is two stories high. Features include weathered stonework, a plinth, and a string course running above the ground floor windows. Each bay on the south front has an 8-light double chamfered mullioned window with a king mullion on the ground floor, and a 12-light double chamfered mullioned and transomed window with a hood mould and decorative slope on the first floor. Rainwater spouts run between the gables. The left return wall has a lateral stack and the original entrance door with moulded jambs, imposts, and a Tudor head inscribed 'IR 1678'. Five intact double chamfered mullioned windows are present on the ground floor. The first floor windows mirror those on the front. The right return wall also has a lateral stack and a 20th-century porch, along with four double chamfered mullioned windows.
