Description
Springfield and Springfield Cottage are a row of cottages located on the south side of Forest Hill Road in Gosport Bridge, dating from the early 19th century. They are constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof, featuring a two-storey front and a two-span roof. The cottages have two doorways with monolithic jambs, two 2-light flat-faced mullioned windows, and two 4-light windows with mullioned windows of 2-lights, 3-lights, and 4-lights on the first floor, although some mullions have been removed. Stone gutter brackets are present, and the right-hand return gable of the double pile has a large taking-in door that has been blocked, which indicates its historical use for domestic or factory textile manufacture from the early 19th century. Each cottage has large stacks rising to the ridge.
