Description
Marsh Hall, dated 1626 and possibly incorporating earlier fabric, is a traditional building with a single-storeyed central section (now containing an inserted floor) and two-storeyed crosswings, each with finials to the gables. The walls are now rendered. The roof is stone. The building features a large, tripartite range of mullioned and transomed windows in the centre, with a later floor inserted behind. An arched and moulded doorway is present, displaying the initials "TOM" within the spandrels and the date 1626 above the doorway. The crosswings have wide mullioned and transomed windows, with some mullions missing from the east side. A central lean-to addition exists at the rear. The interior includes a good original decorated plaster ceiling in the west front room, some decoration in the east room, and fragments of plasterwork in an upper room displaying the date 1635 and the initials “O above IM.” A corresponding room to the west is said to have had its ceiling collapse shortly before inspection. There is also some early joinery and displaced panelling. The house is now divided into three separate dwellings.
