Description

A pair of cottages dating from the mid-18th century, located on Fall Lane in Shibden. The cottages are constructed of coursed stone with ashlar dressings and have stone slate roofs. A central ridge stack and raised coped gable are present. The two-storey main front features two long mullion windows, now three-light, though originally five-light. A doorway with a plain ashlar surround sits to the left, and a plank door with a massive lintel is positioned to the right. Above, a stone band is visible, and a central window without mullions is flanked by single long mullion windows, also now three-light, originally five-light. The rear front is single-storey with a doorway with an ashlar surround flanked by single three-light mullion windows to the left, and a further doorway beyond to the right. The interior includes chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, two ashlar fireplaces either side of the central stack, some timber-framed partition walls on the upper floor, and some original roof timbers.
