Description

Numbers 23 to 27 (odd) with rear premises date from the mid-19th century and represent a former stable court. The building is constructed of stone with a slated roof and is designed in a Gothic style. The main range is two storeys high, featuring a prominent central gate tower, corbelled eaves to the roof, and gables at each end. Shops occupy the ground storey to the west, while the upper storey has wide, mullioned and slit windows with buttresses and chimney stacks. A single-storeyed south range exhibits buttressing, mullioned windows, and arched doorways. The north range is irregular, extending to one and two storeys and featuring mullioned and transomed windows. The rear of the building has been altered with the addition of a lower storey. The interior of the courtyard has also been altered. The entrance gateway and lodge to the burial ground, along with numbers 23 to 51 (odd), form a group.
