Description
Lad Stones is a house dating from the early 17th century, with an extension from the early 18th century. It is built of large dressed stone and has a stone slate roof, standing two storeys tall. The south front features double chamfered mullioned windows. On the left, a cross-wing projects forward and includes a five-light window with a hoodmould that has decorative circular label stops. Above this, there are two cross-windows that are missing their mullions, and the stone apex has a blocked hole. The left return wall of the wing has an extruded stack, while the right return wall features a pointed arched doorway with composite jambs and a chamfered surround.
The hall range has an eight-light window with a king mullion, along with a six-light window above it (four lights below and two above). There is also a six-light window with a king mullion and a similar window above it. This end of the house is in a ruinous condition. The rear of the building has a 1½ storey outshut. Attached to the eastern end is a two-storey porch with a depressed arched lintel; the inner door is dated 1721. The outshut has a six-light window and a two-light chamfered window above it, while a cross-window provides light to the stair. To the left of the porch, there is a three-light window.
