Description
The barn, located approximately 2 meters to the south-west of Upper Foot Farmhouse, is dated "SM 1753" and is constructed from coursed squared stone with a stone slate roof. It features five internal bays and has an archway that connects the north-east corner of the barn to the south-west corner of the farmhouse.
The barn has quoins and a central round-arched cart entry with tiestones, imposts, and a raised keystone. There is a blocked 19th-century doorway with a window to the left, and a mistal doorway at a lower level on the left end, which also has tiestones and is tied into the quoins. At the right end, there is a chamfered quoined doorway with a lintel that has rounded inner corners and a date, alongside a tall two-light chamfered mullion window. The barn includes square vents and, above the cart entry, two chamfered arched vents with sunk spandrels. A shaped knocker is located to the left, and the gable features coping and ridge skylights.
The segmental archway springs from the right-hand angle of the barn and dies into the corner of the house, featuring flat coping. The rear of the barn has an opposing cart entry and an opposing doorway at the left end, which is masked by a 20th-century pent-roofed stable that is not of special interest. A contemporary bay projects on the right, which has quoins and a blocked chamfered quoined doorway.
Inside, the lower level at the west end includes stalling with wooden partitioning for seven beasts and a hayloft above. The roof trusses feature queen posts with angle braces and collars that support short king posts, along with large-scantling purlins and a ridge piece.
