Description
The orangery located approximately 50 metres north of the workshop and barn range at Field House is a Grade II listed structure. It is dated 1749 but likely reflects characteristics from around 1874. The building is constructed of ashlar and features a glass roof. It is a single-storey structure with five by two bays. Each bay contains a tall round-arched window with imposts, and the date is displayed above the central window. There is a cornice, and the interior has a roof supported by cast-iron columns; the columns at the front are plain, while those at the rear are chamfered and feature decorative ironwork in the spandrels. The style of the orangery is similar to the gate piers and lodges on Rochdale Road, which are also dated 1749 and rebuilt in 1874.
